Had some time to mess with the combat systems, and ever since, i've been thinking about what could i suggest to improve it.
SOME PREFACE: WSW's (We Shall Wake) combat is fine as is, my main problem is how..weirdly-complex the input combinations are in order to perform certain actions. This post will essentially be feedback on my gameplay experience, running some thoughts around how i think the game could be better. I will come back here from time from time to add more thoughts. Feel free to comment or add your own.
You could also ignore my ramblings (that's all this will be), that's perfectly fine to.. I'll come back around to start up some thinking.
NOTE: This is my first time posting on a forum of any kind, and I haven't went thru all the content in demo 7. I also have a simple laptop that uses base intel graphics, and i run WSW on low settings, so forgive me if i sound like i'm missing key parts of the game. Opinions be what opinions are.
As you were..

Of all things dodging and the aerial recovery are what I have a problem with. Dodging is useless and the aerial recovery is a pain to pull off and wrecks my hand.

Don't worry about double posting or anything. We're not sticklers about forum organization.
Inputs in WSW are hard to pull off, but most of the problems you're describing is mostly a result of you needing to practice and try to understand the game mechanics. Like any game in this genre, there's a low skill floor and a decently high skill ceiling.
Dodging is not useless: weaving is meant for 1 on 1 battles and can be critical in dishing out damage with minimal damage. You can also use weaves to effectively dodge missiles and projectiles. If you want to see weaving used effectively - just watch the AI.
We'll be hopefully adding more ways to customize the controls in the future, but if you have an issue with them, you can always rebind them.
The amount of control we give you over both movement and combat is going to make for a complex input set, but that's just part of the game.
TLDR; practice!

Changed dodge to Alt and shooting to Mouse 3. Now my hand isn't falling apart but sprinting and shooting doesn't work. Oh well at least I can practice dodging properly now.

There was a bug with being able to bind two actions to the same button. I've corrected that in a newer build I'll be pushing later in the evening.

ramblings: Post 0
I want to offer my sincerest of apologizes for my absence. For any fellow "waker(s)" (note: who do we call members?)or dev(s) who was keeping tabs on this thread (and I thank you if you do), I want you to know now. I...am...a...PROCRASTINATOR. Please expect infrequent and irregular posts, as well as long waits, if you're expecting anything from me.
If I don't run out of motivational juice before this is over, maybe I'll be able to get all my thoughts across well. Maybe something beautiful happens as a result afterwards, or maybe everything collapses, who knows. As far as I'm concerned, everything depends on how I present it.
Speaking of which, expect visual aids. And I will try to put in some screens, so if anyone asks:
Now we just wait...for more...

also, quick question mr/ms dev(s): how do you take screenshots? I would like to take higher resolution screens with full screen on, but the prnt scn function doesn't capture it, so I have to put the game in window mode. The result is the above picture. Any suggestions?

Yeah I recommend something like f as your shoot button and automotion as Mouse 3 or something weird like that. To be honest, I started on Mouse and Keyboard, but switched to a controller because none of us actually used controller and I figured we needed to make sure that the controller support was decent. And once I'd made the transition I've got to say there's some advantages to it. Sprint on RT, automotion on LB, Shoot on LT, so you can quite easily hit all of them at once if you want. So, try a controller if you can. Creative rebinds if you can't. I definitely do not recommend having sprint and automotion as Lshift and Lctrl respectively. That's unpleasant and horrible.

I do have a controller but my sense of y-axis is busted to shit right now so I am staying away from it.

Fair enough. In that case I suggest you look at creative key bindings. It's the unfortunate downside of a game like WSW, that sooner or later you're going to have to perform unnatural acts upon your finger joints.
It's a little known genre fact that Hideki Kamiya started his career as a bone and joint doctor, and actually created DMC 1 as a form of physical therapy for patients with arthritis.

I found a good set up of key binds so all I have to do now is "git gud". Also grapple mashing turns enemies into punching bags.
